Reem Makkawi, Designer - Perkins & Will
Reem is a designer, artist, painter, researcher, and entrepreneur based in Manhattan. Reem's experience spans from teaching & material science to the technical nuts-and-bolts of prefab and large-scale interior design; while pursuing research in art, sustainable materials, virtual & artificial technology and social justice.
Reem is frequently a design critic at Columbia GSAPP, UC Berkeley and California College of the Arts, and is actively involved in several organizations, from Women in Construction NYC to co-founding San Francisco-based design group N.ARK.O (New Arkitecture Organization) and collaborator at Guinea-based social entreprise Kaloum Bankhi building in Conakry.
A certified LEED AP ID+C professional, an associate of New Organization of Minority Architects, and an associate of the American Institute of Architects. Reem earned a Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University and B.A Architecture from UC Berkeley.
