Yekaterina Aglitsky
Sustainability Director,
MTA Construction & Development
I started my environmental journey as a student activist in late 80 in Soviet Union and continued on after moving to New York, with translating HazMat training materials in the early 90, working in subsurface investigation and other environmental compliance fields until 1999 when I joined the MTA. My university focus in psychology department was human toxicology and adult education. At first MTA NYC Transit continued to utilize my HazMat expertise on capital construction projects, but with time I transitioned into ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System (first as a Deputy and then as a Director) and developing it into a Sustainability system. I also championed adoption of USGBC LEED rating system for applicable projects, was involved in Zofness Program to develop Envision from the very early meetings at Harvard School of Design and upon release of Envision immediately incorporated path to its adoption into MTA EMS for Capital Projects. Responsible for LEED Gold Certification for the Mother Clara Hale Bus depot and for 3 other finished and ongoing LEED projects. Also responsible for ongoing Envision verification of Times Square Shuttle project and ongoing "envisioning" of 3 other MTA projects. Championed trainings, studies and efforts to incorporate geothermal and other advanced energy technologies with MTA Office of Strategic Innovation, NYSERDA, USDOE. Received NYS DEC Award for sustainable project. Throughout my long career i was always training and mentoring, presenting at conferences and seminars; worked with MTA Blue Ribbon Commission on Sustainability, Transportation Research Board, APTA and other knowledge sharing organizations. I was honored to be contentiously invited to guest lecture at various educational institutions as well as being encouraged to develop various professional development programs for my own organization. Recently I joined the budding New York State Association of Environmental Professionals as assistant to the President.
