Spencer Lapp, AIA, LEED GA

Senior Associate, COOKFOX

Spencer joined COOKFOX in 2015 and has contributed to significant large-scale adaptive reuse projects in New York. Most recently, he oversaw the construction of St. John’s Terminal, an adaptive reuse of the historic train terminal into a commercial workplace for Google. He also supported the design of Terminal Warehouse: a 19th century storage warehouse being converted into high-performance biophilic office space in Chelsea. Spencer worked on 512 West 22nd Street, a black terracotta-clad commercial tower along the High Line that prioritizes biophilia in the modern workplace. He brings in-depth knowledge of innovative sustainability and extensive experience with the intricacies of the design process. Spencer led the design of an experimental biophilic façade as part of the Architecture Ceramic Assemblies Workshop (ACAW), where he was inspired to push the boundaries of architectural terra cotta by creating a biophilic screen wall with micro habitats. In addition to his design work, Spencer is the resident beekeeper of COOKFOX, managing the 100,000+ honeybees and other native pollinators that inhabit the studio’s verdant terraces.

Prior to joining COOKFOX, Spencer orchestrated large-scale installation designs in collaboration with Austin+Mergold and managed both commercial and residential projects during his time at EFGH. He draws inspiration from the exploration of materials and the process of creation. In his free time, he explores form and function through ceramics, lighting and furniture design.
