Malik James
Malik James is the Executive Director of the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus (BLAC) of the New York City Council. He joined the Council after working under the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), an umbrella immigration advocacy group, as Political Associate, where he engaged elected officials, tracked legislation, and helped advance the Coalition’s legislative and budget priorities. During his tenure, the NYIC successfully advocated for a local bill to enfranchise nearly one million permanent residents in New York City. Prior to the NYIC, Malik served as a Paralegal in the Financial Frauds Bureau of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. In his new role, Malik guides the BLAC in developing, organizing and executing its legislative and budget agendas, and collaborates with legislators, agencies, community groups and other stakeholders to support the BLAC's priorities.
