Juan Arias
Juan Arias is an 18-year veteran at the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) where he currently serves as Assistant Commissioner for Construction Safety. In this role, Juan directly oversees the work of the agency’s Construction Safety Enforcement and Construction Safety Compliance units. Both units work to enforce the City’s Construction Codes on large construction sites across the five boroughs.
Prior to his current position, Juan served as Chief Inspector of the DOB’s Emergency Response Team, providing 24/7 rapid response for building-related emergencies throughout the City. He has been at the forefront of the agency’s responses to crisis situations, including recovery operations following Superstorm Sandy, led DOB’s disaster relief efforts following hurricanes in Puerto Rico, and responded to major building-related incidents across in New York City.
