Jane Sanders

Associate Principal, Director of Sustainability, Henson Architecture

Jane Sanders’ work focuses on sustainability, maximizing space and light, sensitivity to historic details and clean, understated design. 

Jane ran her own urban residential firm for over fifteen years. Prior to that, she specialized in historic preservation and adaptive reuse at Jan Hird Pokorny Associates. Her extensive experience is in building restoration, new construction, code compliance and working with NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. 

She has worked on a variety of building types including churches, museums and townhouses preparing construction documents, technical specifications, master plans, historic structure reports and conditions surveys. She was project architect for restoration of the Brooklyn Historical Society and the 79th Street Maintenance Facility in Central Park.

Jane was recently selected by the Department of Buildings to serve as a member of the 2019 NYCECC Residential Advisory Committee to review and provide recommendations on proposed amendments to the energy code.

She has completed training and certification in Passive House, a methodology for producing extremely energy efficient buildings with superior indoor air quality. She has recently completed three Passive House retrofit projects in Brooklyn. She lives in a Passive House in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
