James P. Colgate, AIA, CFM, Esq.,
James P. Colgate AIA is a partner at the law firm BCLP representing developers, lenders, nonprofit institutions and public agencies in all aspects of land use law in New York City. Prior to joining Bryan Cave, he was the assistant commissioner for technical affairs and code development at the New York City Department of Buildings. In this role, he issued complex interpretations, co-authored laws and managed the department’s legislative efforts to revise the New York City Construction Codes. Prior to his tenure at the Department of Buildings, Colgate worked at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the NYC Department of City Planning.
Mr. Colgate holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, an M.Arch and Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. from New York University.
