Aaron Mendelsohn
Aaron Mendelsohn is the Director of the New York City Council’s Oversight & Investigations Division (OID). OID serves as the Council’s “fact-finders” and plays a critical role in its oversight of New York City government agencies and quality of life topics across the five boroughs. Specifically, OID conducts complex investigations of issues involving fraud and waste, and health and safety in New York City in support of the Council’s legislative function.
Prior to joining the Council, Aaron was a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice, a senior counsel at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and he worked at major international law firms and Big 4 accounting firms. Aaron has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law, teaching International Financial Crime. He has received numerous awards and commendations, including FINRA's Premier Achievement Award, and from the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Secret Service, the Internal Revenue Service, and the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators.
Aaron received his J.D. from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and his B.A. from Middlebury College. He is also a marathon winner and a Jewish cantor.
