Virgin Hotel’s Glass Curtain Wall Reaches Final Floors At 1225 Broadway In NoMad
The glass curtain wall is closing in on the final floors of the Virgin Hotel at 1225 Broadway in NoMad. Designed by VOA Associates and developed by Lam Group, the 476-foot-tall tower will yield 460 hotel rooms and 90,000 square feet of retail within the podium. Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Group will be in charge of managing the 300,000-square-foot property.
Recent photos show the extent of the exterior work. Most of the building is now clad in glass, with only the crown, podium, and area behind the construction hoist awaiting completion. The box frame of the mechanical units and water towers will soon be covered with a grid of opaque panels in a pixelated pattern of light and dark blue tones.

The podium levels have seen the least progress since YIMBY’s September update. Above the ground-floor retail, which will include a 22,000-square-foot golf store called Swingers: A Crazy Golf Club, the podium will contain an outdoor swimming pool and a lounge. The open, transparent style of the lower floors of the hotel will be a significant departure from the more conventional buildings and storefronts that surround 1225 Broadway.

The development joins a number of projects transforming the NoMad neighborhood, where new hotels, offices, stores, and residential skyscrapers have sprouted up in recent years. Though a modest contribution to the skyline, The Virgin Hotel will still add to the neighborhood’s growing vertical density, spearheaded by projects such as 1185 Broadway, Rose Hill, Madison House, 30 East 31st Street, and Bjarke Ingels Group‘s proposed office building to the east at 3 West 29th Street, aka 29th & 5th.
