Steel Superstructure Progresses on Public Storage Expansion at 31-28 Northern Boulevard in Long Island City, Queens

Construction is steadily progressing on 31-28 Northern Boulevard, a new 12-story Public Storage facility in Long Island City, Queens. Designed by Tao Architecture + Design, the ground-up development will add more storage units to the company’s multi-building complex. E. W. Howell is the general contractor for the property, which is nestled between two existing sites Public Storage Inc. currently owns and utilizes, and is situated by the corner of Northern Boulevard and 39th Avenue.

Recent photographs show the steel-framed superstructure reaching the 12th level with the framing of the ceiling awaiting to be fully installed. Metal decking lines each level, along with temporary orange netting across the edge of the floor plates. A portion o the exterior facade is already going up along the eastern side next to the mechanical hoist. The overall height blends with the two flanking buildings.
