You don’t see homes like this Manhattan Beach contemporary in New York City too often—but when you do find them, it tends to be in the city’s outer-boroughs, where postmodern gems and Miami-esque uber-mansions have more room to spread out.

The house itself was designed by WXY Architecture + Urban Design, the firm better known for its work on civic buildings (the DSNY Salt Shed in Soho, for instance) and its master planning for large-scale urban projects than single-family homes. But if you’re familiar with the firm’s work, the house on Ocean Avenue fits in, to some degree: Its exterior is geometric and made of metal—not all that different from something like the SeaGlass Carousel in Battery Park, if slightly less elegant—and the interiors are sleek and modern.

Well, sleek and modern and extremely colorful; the current owners have kitted the place out in shades of violet, lime green, and bright blue, with mod furnishings and striped wallpaper providing quirky accents. The house itself has four bedrooms and four bathrooms spread out over its more than 4,000 square feet, with features like a full-floor spa with a sauna, a wraparound deck, fireplaces, and a two-car garage.

The unusual house at 4147 Ocean Avenue is listed with Corcoran’s Michelle Sedlitz and Francine Albert for $4.925 million.
