Deputy Regional Administrator
Steve Kaplan is the Deputy Regional Administrator for OSHA in OSHA Region 2 – covering New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands.
He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Ecology from Rutgers/Cook College in Piscataway NJ. He began his career at OSHA in 1994 as a Compliance Safety and Health Officer.
As a Compliance Safety and Health Officer he personally conducted more than 250 enforcement inspections/investigations (including accident, incident/injury, and fatality investigations).
As a Supervisor, he supervised a team of compliance officers on more than 2000 inspections over a 5 year period.
He was involved in the Federal safety and health responses to World Trade Center Recovery, Hurricane Katrina, Super Storm Sandy, and the Federal Response to Ebola acting as a technical advisor and liaison between OSHA and other Federal, State, and Local entities.
He is OSHA Region 2’s Subject Matter Expert for Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout Tagout).
