Michael Petermann is a registered architect and principal in the New York City office of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates (WJE). WJE is a 600 person firm specializing in forensic investigations and repair design of structures and buildings. WJE staff is comprised of engineers, architects, and materials scientists. Over Mr. Petermann’s 25 years of experience, he has surveyed hundreds of building envelopes involving a wide variety of failures of numerous building components and materials. His involvement as a project manager has ranged from diagnosis of failures to administration of repairs. Other consulting services have included expert testimony and due-diligence studies for clients purchasing property. He has also written several articles on building facades and is active in promulgating standards for periodic inspection of building facades for unsafe conditions. He currently chairs ASTM E06.55.05 Façade Inspection Task Group which is responsible for three ASTM standards on façade inspections and is currently developing a fourth standard on conducting façade inspections via UAVs.
